8 Tahun Beroperasi, PLTSa Benowo Sumbang 122,04 GWh Energi Bersih di Jawa Timur

PLNSURABAYA, Jatim Today – Penanganan sampah di kota-kota besar seperti Surabaya yang dianggap sebuah permasalahan utama, kini sudah memiliki solusi yang justru membawa manfaat untuk masyarakat luas. Salah satunya, melalui Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Sampah (PLTSa) Benowo yang hampir delapan tahun beroperasi, pembangkit listrik ini telah sumbang 122,04 GWh energi bersih di Jawa Timur.
Beroperasi sejak 30 November 2015, PLTSa Benowo merupakan pembangkit listrik berbahan bakar sampah dari Tempat Pembuangan Sampah (TPS) Benowo yang memiliki areal seluas 37,4 Hektar. PLTSa ini pertama kali beroperasi dengan kapasitas 1,65 MW menggunakan teknologi sanitary landfill. Sebagai bentuk tindak lanjut Perpres 35/2018 tentang Percepatan Pembangunan Instalasi Pengolah Sampah Menjadi Energi Listrik Berbasis Teknologi Ramah Lingkungan, PLTSa Benowo tahap 2 berkapasitas 9 MW dengan teknologi gasification (zero waste) beroperasi 10 Maret 2021.
“PLTSa Benowo ini merupakan wujud nyata kolaborasi PLN dengan pemerintah kota Surabaya untuk mendukung energi listrik berbasis teknologi ramah lingkungan. Setiap tahunnya, PLTSa ini berkontribusi memasok energi bersih sekitar 5,5 GWh dan 30 GWh untuk masing-masing pembangkitnya,” papar General Manager PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi Jawa Timur, Lasiran.
Sanitary landfill ini merupakan sistem pengelolaan dengan cara membuang dan menumpuk sampah di lokasi cekung, memadatkannya, dan kemudian menimbunnya dengan tanah untuk selanjutnya diperoleh gas metan. Sementara metode gasification/zero waste adalah metode untuk mengkonversi sampah padat menjadi bahan bakar gas melalui proses termal (termokimia) dengan pasokan udara terbatas pada suatur reaktor yang disebut dengan gasifier.
“Zero waste memiliki keunggulan yakni tidak ada sampah yang tersisa dibanding teknologi sebelumnya yang masih memiliki residu. Kedua pembangkit ini langsung terkoneksi dengan sistem 20 kV di Gardu Induk Altaprima, sehingga listrik yang digunakan warga Surabaya ini sudah dipasok energi ramah lingkungan,” imbuh Lasiran.
Lebih lanjut, Lasiran mengungkapkan akan terus berkolaborasi dengan pemerintah memberikan akses listrik secara merata di Jawa Timur melalui pembangkit-pembangkit hijau lainnya.
“Seperti halnya dengan di kepulauan, menyesuaikan medan dan kondisi pada akhir tahun 2023, PLN berencana menambah 16 PLTS komunal berkapasitas 975 kWp dengan potensi pelanggan 8.434 di Kepulauan Sumenep seperti Bulumanuk, Bunginnyarat, Gili Labak, Karamian, Sepangkur Kecil dan lainnya,” pungkas Lasiran.
